The first day of spring is one thing, and the first spring day is another. The difference between them is sometimes as great as a month. ~ Henry VanDyke

The first day of spring was this week, Thursday, 3/20/08. While I’m seeing the signs of spring exhibited all around me: the smell of nourishing mud; winter winds giving way to lighter breezes; and the green freshness of new shoots of neglected bulbs in the garden, I look forward with great anticipation to that “first spring day.” To me, when that happens, “real” spring means no more heavy coats, excitedly cuddling our new batch of baby chicks, and joyfully hanging up the flowering plants outside.

In my personal journey, I’m seeing a similar path. Appointments for energy healings mark my calendar. Through these sessions, my clients and I experience the many gifts of this work: quiet relaxation; a new insight into a situation that may have felt “stuck”; and being more in-tune with the world around us.

But in the way that the “first spring day” is not necessarily one printed on my calendar, deeper healing rhythms move in their own time. The effects of a healing settle into us like the beauty of spring sun on the earth. The light energy coming into us nurtures change, helping to release us from old ways and to strengthen us for opportunities that lead us into new directions of growth and vitality. Sometimes those shifts of awareness are as subtle as the quiet arrival of those first glimpses of the crocuses. At other times they are as loud to me as the gushing stream, celebrating its freedom from snow and ice.

As the seasons change, I invite you to consider the idea that our lives continually seek a parallel to this growth and renewal. What are some of the green tender shoots poking through in your life? What is challenging you right now? What is feeling “frozen” that seeks to be thawed and released? Stuck in some rich mud for a while? What are you feeling called to do to return you to your wholeness?

I wish you the sweetness of spring.

Long Life, Honey in the Heart, No Evil, Thirteen Thank You’s.

With love,

Erica
